About Karen Veteran

Life’s challenges can prove overwhelming at times, but you do not need to overcome them alone.  I help individuals, couples and families explore unhelpful patterns, build insight and new skills.  I believe that everyone has inherent strengths and the capacity for change and resilience, and I work collaboratively with my clients to address your challenges and goals.

The therapeutic relationship between us is the center of our work and you can expect a compassionate, non-judgmental, gently challenging, and supportive environment.  Choosing to engage in therapy shows that you are ready for growth, and I deeply honor your emotional safety, privacy, and trust.

In addition to a therapy practice, I teach courses at Clark College in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Services Program.  Some of the topics I teach are grief and loss, trauma counseling, human services intervention and theory, and suicide prevention.  I love what I do – both engaging clients and teaching students.

In my free time I am at home on my acreage, which used to have an abundance of animals (llamas, horses, chickens, alpacas) but now just has some silly goats, and my dogs and cats.

Q&A With Karen Veteran

I gravitate to uncovering and working with clients on what might be the deeper issue(s), which tend to feed the symptom(s) creating the immediate problem.

I tend to follow the client’s lead as most clients tend to know what’s going on, but clients need guidance to identify the deeply seeded obstacles, so I help untangle the maze and help navigate the healing process.

I really enjoy and care about people, which helps me love my job! I have over 30 years of experience as a licensed therapist in so many different settings and environments.

I would love the ability to magically reach into someone’s heart and put them in touch with their own unique and beautiful soul!

I love babies giggling and silly cat videos!

It would be great to enjoy a meal with Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
